Multi room music and BT speakers
« on: December 20, 2017, 03:07:00 pm »
Hi everyone! Been Alexa'ed for over a year now, lots of lighting, very pleased with that.
I have one Echo and 2 Dots throughout my house. I have connected 2 UE Boom BT speakers to the Dots. Individually the Dots will play music through the BT speaker but when I play music with the "Everywhere" option the Dots drop their output from the BT to the internal speaker. The Echo plays fine either way. I'm playing Pandora if that makes a difference.
Is there and option I missed, or is this thing still not ready for Primetime???

Hey!

So a few simple searches clearly demonstrate it's not ready for prime time IMHO and would even yield the specific problem to which you refer.

Bluetooth is broken and doesn't work correctly other than in the most basic functions and some of the basic functions are broken.

Here is a basic overview of what I believe are key reasons Amazon devices are not ready for prime-time:  http://www.echotalk.org/index.php/topic,2855.0.html

Amazon devices do not allow basic audio selection (like you get in Windows (and other OSes) when you can choose between your regular speakers and BT connected audio options):  https://www.amazonforum.com/forums/devices/echo-alexa/2246-speaker-selection-doesnt-work-bluetooth-not

Another way this can impact users in a common scenario:  http://www.echotalk.org/index.php/topic,2921.msg15984.html#msg15984

Specifically with regards to the group-BT-speaker-dc Amazon typically tries to cover this up saying "developers intended it" to work like a bug:  https://www.amazonforum.com/forums/devices/echo-alexa/466223-dot-2-drops-bluetooth-connection-when-played-from

This "working as intended" is also used to cover other BT-associated-bugs within Amazon devices: https://www.amazonforum.com/forums/devices/echo-alexa/467295-alexa-bluetooth

If you want to help, given your current stated investment, please contact Amazon Echo Support and report it as a bug.  When they tell you "working as intended" let them know you know its a bug which you can easily defend from details provided here and in the above links.  If enough people complain they may pay attention and fix things.

Exactly what I went through awhile back. Called tech support and they acted like they have never heard of this issue. The only solution that worked for me is to hardwire the speakers instead of using the BT feature. Hope this helps. Good luck.
