Can previous owner access voice recordings of requests made by new owner?

I have a bit of a technical question for the Amazon Alexa. My roommate recently bought it from his friend for $10, and we have it in our home. I read online that the owner of the device could access voice recordings of all requests made on Alexa through the smartphone app and the Amazon.com website. My question is this. Could the voice recording requests made by me and my roommate now still be accessed by the previous owner of the Alexa through the smartphone app and Amazon.com website? Or would setting up Alexa in a new home, connected to a new WiFi hotspot, remove the previous owner's ability to access the Alexa device in my home? I'm not sure if connecting the Amazon Alexa to any Internet connection would allow the owner (past or present) to access the voice recording requests. I feel uncomfortable with the idea that anybody who owned the device earlier could access voice recordings of requests made by present users. If the past owner can access the voice recording requests made by the new owners (me and my roommate), I would also like to ask for steps to prevent the previous owner from having access to this information. I would appreciate any insight into this. Thanks so much for reading and your time.

If the previous owner removed the Echo from their Amazon account, and your roommate connected it to their own Amazon account, there should be no issue. If this did not happen, you should make sure it does. Very little is stored on the physical device. Most everything is on Amazon's servers.

You are alarmed if the previous owner can access all your voice request but not the NSA?

To answer your question, it's unlikely the previous owner can. But it is  highly likely the NSA can.

Just saying.  :-X

Are you serious?

Do you think the NSA have nothing better to do than to act on audio they have heard through Echos?

If someone is overheard plotting an act of terrorism do you think that is wrong that the NSA should take an interest?
If they heard you saying you got into the cinema for free I don't think a SWAT team would be at your door.

Personally I WOULD be more concerned about someone I knew possibly having access to my voice commands more so than a government body.

If my order of Viagra was delivered to my next door neighbour in error I would be very embarrassed if they opened it. On the other hand, if the NSA knew I had bought it, WHO CARES.

I discussed your stance and this thread with my husband and he agrees it with you. I however don't and honestly is more pointing out to the OP the reality. I mean, after snowden and wiki leaks he still thinks we have this thing called privacy,  :-\ once you are connected in the internet especially the cloud, say good bye to privacy. Remember the scandal on that about celeb leaked pics? Come on now, OP, get with the program.
