Using Dot with unpowered speakers
« on: December 05, 2017, 04:31:28 pm »
I have a 5-1 Home Theater that currently has no complements other than the 5 speakers in the ceiling and RCA plugs in the wall. There also is no subwoofer. I am considering a Dot and read in one of the posts that using a $20 Amazon Basic Bluetooth, the Dot can play through the 5 speakers with no other hardware required. Is this correct? If not, can I use the speakers with the Dot with some other device?

Just use the aux input. That actually is the advantage of dot over echo. Echo can only connect via BT. Dot can connect on BOTH aux or BT. If I were you I would use aux input. No extra expense involve and no hit or miss on BT connection.

Thanks for the response. I guess I didn't make it clear however that there aren't any components other than the speakers and their input jacks. In other words 2 plugs for the right front, 2 for the left front, 2 for the center 2 for the left surround , 2 for the right surround and a single for the woofer.
