Fire TV is now Alexa enabled
« on: September 17, 2015, 02:35:17 pm »
According to Amazon, to be released Oct 5, the new Fire TV devices has Alexa functionality.
There's still no word on the Echo controlling the Fire TV device. But I assume if the new Fire TV has Alexa built-in, then it's the same Alexa that can control your Fire TV through the Echo.

Both the Fire TV Stick and Box will include Alexa and a voice remote to chat with Alexa.  New Apple TV also has a voice remote to chat with Siri.  As for Chromecast and Roku, who knows if they will have similar features soon.

too bad it is not voice activated like the echo.  You have to use the remote to talk to it.

It IS voice activated -- via the remote, and not via the Fire TV unit because it would be too close to the TV and be an issue.  Also, Alexa will not work when TV is off, and so it has limited utility compared to an Echo.
