Using the echo with a uk account

Hi, I am in the UK and I just got an Echo Dot. When I downloaded my Alexa app it asked me to login with my Amazon.com account, and the language is set to English US. How do I change it to UK and link it with my UK account ? Right now, when I ask it about my amazon purchases it gets the ones form Amazon.com

This seems quite odd. A number of us who had a US echo had to call Amazon customer service to swap over the US account to the UK account. I would not have thought this would be the case for a UK bought echo though...
