Dot to bluetooth system with code
« on: December 10, 2016, 04:00:57 am »
I have a bluetooth sound system in my home (UK) and I am trying to connect my Echo dot to it.  It needs a 4 digit code to connect.  It is now apparent that the dot cannot connect to any bluetooth device as per all of the advertising.   Having delved in to the small print I can now see that this is the case.

Does anyone know if this is in an imminent development ?  It seems such a basic requirement and such an easy thing to add to the app ?

Really frustrating.  Otherwise I think it is excellent!

Thanks everyone

Your BT device must implement at least version 2.1 of the standard in order for your Echo to pair with it.  Since that version of the standard has been out for 9 years now I doubt that Amazon will put any effort into adding compatibility with devices that are too old to have implemented it..

Ads state that if one's BT speaker requires a 4-digit code they will not connect.  Time to upgrade speaker.

As Parker and Mike suggested, it's time to upgrade.

Any Bluetooth device that requires a code in order to pair uses Bluetooth version 1.2 (or earlier) which was made in 2003 (or earlier). This is old technology which is not supported any more.

Thanks for the replies.  Both systems that I have in the house are brand new.

I have attached a link to one of them below.  The speaker uses bluetooth v4.0

I found the product info on the manufacturer's web site...

http://www.litheaudio.com/products/litheaudio-bluetooth-ceiling-speaker

...and it says that they sell two different versions of that speaker, one that is PIN-protected and one that isn't...with the latter noted as being compatible with the Echo.  It would appear that you have the PIN-protected version, which is not compatible.
