Title: Echo loosing wifi setup and groups after power outage
Post by: Yoruneko on January 06, 2017, 04:55:13 am
Hello everyone I'm new here, I tried to search for this is issue but found no relevant info anywhere so here I go.

My house suffers from some power outages during winter and to my surprise the Echo looses all wifi setup as well as devices groups each time! I have to start over again device setup and this is a waste of time. Doesn't it have somewhere to store that info?
It doesn't looses skills though for some reason.

I'm not in an officially supported country if that's any help..

Anybody here with a similar experience?

You don't say which type of internet connection you have.
I have had my dot lose devices but not the wi-fi settings.
Simply saying Alexa discover devices finds them again.
I'm in Canada.

I use a 5G connection in WPA2.. Also I'm in France! So totally unsupported territory!

Canada isn't supported either thought you would expect it was.
I'm on cable which is fast but down at least once a week sometimes for an hour or more.
Power is usually very reliable except in extreme weather events.
You do need a static IP for the echo to work reliably.
If after a Power outage you have a different IP that is the reason your losing all info. ;)

I have my own router, (Asus) and it has a feature whereby it assigns a fixed IP for every connected device that is based on the MAC address.  In some ways this is like having a static IP, so even though the router allows for setting up static IPs, I have never needed to do this.  This feature likely has saved me a lot router-grief.

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated!
I have a Tp-Link router so I'm going to look into the fixed IP thing, hopefully I can bind it to the MAC address too!!

It's great to have an active community to turn to when you're an early adopter.. Thanks again!
