Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Amazon DOT connect to Audio System

See this thread:

Plugging into the 3.5mm output will disconnect the dot speaker. You need to use a Bluetooth adapter to do what you want.

Echo Technical Support / Offset Calendar times
« Last post by RoboDad on December 10, 2017, 07:43:28 pm »
I received a gen 2 Echo from my son as a gift.  I'm still trying to figure out how to get it to work with my Apple centric world.  I sync my calendars with iCloud.  When I ask Alexa what is on my schedule, the events are all there on all calendars, but the times for the events are all off by 6 hours.  I live in CT in Wisconsin.  I've searched everywhere to try and discover where Alexa is changing the time zone, but have been unsuccessful.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Amazon DOT connect to Audio System
« Last post by Bill Beau on December 10, 2017, 07:43:04 pm »
Hi All,
I have an Amazon DOT and wish to use a wireless adapter to send send to my stereo system. I can plug the sending unit into the headphone jack on the DOT. Once I do that, I won't want sound coming from the DOT's little internal speaker. Is there a way to have the DOT use it's integral speaker when I don't want to send audio to my main system? In other words, can I tell the DOT "Alexa, play through your internal speaker." and then "Alexa, turn you sound off." or something like that?

Are you getting an audio response from Alexa when it doesn’t work? If so, is it “ok” or some other response?

In the Alexa up, under settings, in the accounts section you should see an entry about Amazon Households.

Echo Technical Support / Using Alexa in a house with multiple users
« Last post by forest on December 10, 2017, 05:15:29 pm »
Hi

I have bought an Echo & a Dot. The Echo is in the kitchen and the Dot in my sons bedroom.

I have added my wife to the account and my son has his own account.

How do we set up our household so we have separate profiles to use the echo ?

Smart Devices and Gadgets / Re: Delays in Alexa Routines

Routines are very new and simple macros thought new things get added as users make suggestions in the feed back of the Alexa app. ;)
It is possible we'll see this in the future.

Old versions of HA-Bridge were a security risk if you opened it up to the internet.
Newer versions have more security built in however opening any thing to allow internet access has risks.
I can't comment on Hubs of any brand as I have no experience with them.
However they are getting info to and from the net through your router.
In general:
I'm unsure if you can change any hub settings in them like login info. If so I'd recommend doing that. Leaving things with factory settings makes one venerable. That's why when you hear/read stories of IP Camera and other internet of things hacks, the factory login info was left at the defaults or poor authentication used.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Can you add Gmail to Alexa to read new emails?
« Last post by asianrocker on December 10, 2017, 11:33:57 am »
Well if you connect an echo to your phone as BT speaker. Then you will hear the sound it makes when you have new gmail from your echo, THEN, use the email reader skill.

That's what I will do as work around for the meantime but pretty sure echo devs can add this feature.

And to satisfy you more you can use a custom sound alert for your gmail like 'you got mail'. LOL pretty sure zedge has that.
