Did Support tell you to unplug Dot for at least 5 minutes before plugging it in and trying again to set it up?  This is a tip from Alexa online help section, and it works because it gives the internal circuits plenty of time to reset and clear.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: marks on furniture

Monica, thanks for looking up the household tip on this one.  A small dab of toothpaste on an index finger is a trick I learned years ago from a family friend watch repairman.  He showed me how to remove hair line scratches on a watch face crystal to polish it up.  It is a solution I have used for many things.

The white circles are most likely on the wood finish surface that got cloudy from the heat, and may likely remove a microscopic portion of the finish if the damage is not too deep into the finish.  The wood finish would probably benefit from a little furniture oil after the toothpaste treatment does its thing.

Humm, my Alexa doesn't know anything about the Alexa Silver Edition or the Amazon Echo Silver Edition :o  Wonder if Google Home does....no, she doesn't either.

The only trouble I've ever had out of my TP-Link smart outlets is when the TP-L servers went down.
I've noticed (as others did a few months before me) Alexa seems to be having a harder time hearing me.
Google Home has super human hearing!

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Woot Woot! Dot Lowest Price Since Last Year!

I really don't need another one but I thought I'd buy one to put up in case one bites the dust.  But with the way this technology is going, it may be obsolete in a year or two.  Glad you and your bil were able to take advantage of the sale!

Love my Echo & got a Dot today. I can't connect to my network with it. On phone for over hour with Alexa support. My cell phone gets error message Auto Network switch is enabled. Can not   connect. Tried my tablet & got error 564196920. Help. I disconnected router & modem & dot.  Nothing!

It appears to be vaporware for now.
Also, from the looks of it, it seems to be a simple stand-alone bluetooth speakerphone. It looks like the device uses its own mic and speaker to make the call. In essence, it is using Alexa just to remote control turning it on and off (probably using a combination of a skill and an app on your phone).

Ask anything related to Alexa Silver edition... ANYTHING... or even mention it while she's "awake"... The Keepers have a great sense of humor!
