Smart Devices and Gadgets / Re: Any Thoughts on Smart/wifi Exterior Door Locks?
« Last post by tx50 on July 22, 2017, 10:26:09 am »
We have Schlage Connect locks and I love them.  Easily controlled via app or Alexa.  Programmable keypad is excellent.  One of these we have on French doors and no issue but we have a stable foundation so I cannot speak as to what wiggle room would necessarily be needed I'm afraid.  Not sure if this is of any help at all or not but best of luck!
Smart Devices and Gadgets / Re: Ring pro

We recently purchased the Ring Pro.  To this point I think it is VERY excellent!

Regarding false detects, the motion detect software in the Ring app is totally customizable and I was able to remove almost all false triggers except for people pulling into my driveway to turn around and such which is extremely rare.

I've read that some have low quality video but I believe that was dependent upon your wifi strength.  We have probably 50 feet from our wireless router to the door cam and everything is perfect.

The video recording service mentioned is $30/yr which I don't really consider that much.  It is only necessary if you wish to record the video as well.  So, not totally a necessity if you don't mind not having the recording.  Anyway, all that is just my opinion on what I believe is a really good device.
Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Alexa in the car? Yes please

I have a constant battle with sirius xm and pricing.

But, I now have a way for my kids fire tablets to jump online. I am also going to email the developers of the android based GPS I use and go on and on about how great alexa support would be. Imagine saying "Alexa, plot me a course home" Or "Alexa, update traffic"

Plus, I am able to put it in my wifes car, bring it inside if my local internet provider has a issue.

I showed it to my father right after setting it up. My parents have a Class A RV and were trying to figure out internet on the road. They have been using phones as a hotspot and it was cumbersome. 10 min after I showed him the setup, he placed an order. The first question from my mother was, can we bring Alexa now?
Amazon Echo Discussion / no blue tooth recognition
« Last post by cuzzzzz on July 22, 2017, 09:10:38 am »
Hi.. have two Echo DOTS.  When I registered them (through Alexa App on my Kindle Fire), it went seamlessly through my WiFi router.. did NOT have to use the " Amazon xxx " name.  It seems registered, but I'm unable to connect with either DOT to a new blue tooth speaker I just bought... app says "no blue tooth device detected".  Is it because of not going through amazon xxx but directly through my wifi network name?  Hope I'm being clear.  Possibly it's a faulty blue tooth speaker.

Thank you,
Smart Devices and Gadgets / Schlage Connect Lock Using Scenes
« Last post by tx50 on July 22, 2017, 08:09:21 am »
Is there any way to get multiple Schlage Connect locks to work with Alexa "Scenes"?  I can use Alexa to control the locks individually but was hoping to throw them into a routine.  On my Alexa app under Scenes using a Smart Things hub, the scenes I try to add them to states "SmartThings Routine - Disabled because it contains device(s) unsupported by Alexa" Thanks so much in advance for any assistance!

Hah. Echo support told me you could only hook one device to a single bluetooth speaker and I took what they said at face value. Thanks for letting me know it can be done!

The other day I asked for the weather through this skill and was randomly told "you have 40 weather inquires left".  Is this not free?
Echo Technical Support / Re: Microphone question when listening to music

"Volume X" is relative. One of the radio stations I listen to outputs at a much higher volume than others, and another one is particularly quiet. Loud music playing on a stronger station at (say) Volume 5 is going to cause more interference than quiet music would on a weaker station.

Logitech is one of the worst companies on earth. I don't give a crap what they're selling. Never again. Never ever.
Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: TP-LINK Smart Plug

I think you have to go into the Alexa app setup and have it discover the plug somewhere in there. I got it to work eventually but don't remember exactly how.

Edit, Oh I can't read. You already did that. Well good luck.
