Amazon Echo Discussion / Astro is now available for purchase to the public
« Last post by jwlv on February 17, 2024, 02:34:19 pm »
I just noticed that the Amazon Astro is now available for purchase without an invitation.
https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Astro-for-Business-mobile-security-robot/dp/B0BX1HG85N

It's a whopping $2349!!!

I bought one more than a year ago when I received an invitation. I was not impressed. It was buggy and felt like there was a disconnect between the Astro robot side and the Alexa side of things. Also the loud click-clack noise it made as it rolled around the kitchen tiles at night was annoying. The two big wheels are rubberized and dampen the sound. But the single plastic wheel in the rear is what makes it really annoying. It's been over a year, so i don't know what improvements Amazon has made.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Connecting to Wifi

I am not sure your case with car enabled control has direct baring on the initial question. A fully integrated functional and stabil echo system may not show a dependence of dynamic change in the WiFi network. So let's assume there are multiple independent WiFi systems rather than a true mesh situation. Will the functionally in a large home be effected by the locality within or outside different wifi regions?

I can control everything in my Alexa eco system, With my car infotainment system... even when not in the same zip code... I Don't think it matters which device is on what Ghz, or wifi router, as long as the router/access point is permitted access. On the other hand, if you have some Hue bulbs set up as Blue tooth devices, it may not control them the same due to the non/wifi connection. That's a user choice generally. If it requires a bridge for full features, I can almost guarantee it will require the bridge for full access by other devices.

Keep in mind though, I have a 2023 Honda Accord, with Alexa built in. I had to give the car access to my Alexa account, and my Google account for maps and Alexa connectivity. This stuff with me in the car... not sure if my phone has to be with me or not, except for Apple Car Play functions.

The question in this regard is, if the locality of the setup location of the primary "echo" device is in WiFi_1 zone and you take your phone connected to WiFi_2 zone and try to control your "echo", does this lead to complications? There are devices that require the phone to be on the same WiFi net to allow control, not only that but even distinguish between 2.4 vs 5G net frequency. What is the protocol on Alexa devices?

you should be able to select which wifi network to connect to during the setup process.

Echo Technical Support / Re: Echo Show hears me but my Echo Studio answers me

It happens to me all the time.   since I don't play music, it don't matter to me as long as the command happens.    You can give the name of the device you want to use as part of the command.   You can also change the wake name.

Amazon Echo Discussion / Connecting to Wifi

Hi All
I have 3 Wifi networks at my place, one of these is close to an Alexa but when I set up on the app it basically connects to whichever wifi the phone is connected to which could mean it is trying to connect to the wrong one in another room.

Is there a way to hardcode it so it only connects to a static access point/network?

It happens to all of us. Some Echo devices hear better than others. I noticed that the thinner/smaller the device, the more hard of hearing it is. My Echo gen 4 (the large ball) hears much better than any Echo Dot. And all of my Echo Shows are almost deaf. Not much you can do about it. That's just the way it is, probably due to the way the microphones are situated in thinner/smaller devices.

Echo Technical Support / Echo Show hears me but my Echo Studio answers me

I have an Echo Show 5 (3rd gen) in my kitchen.  About 25' away, around the corner, is my living room with my Echo Studio in it.  Even when I'm close to my Echo Show and ask it something, it 'hears me' because the blue line on the bottom comes up, but my Echo Show *always* answers.  This happens when I talk low and the Echo Studio cannot possibly hear me.
I've tried restarting it.  I've double checked the mute isn't on (otherwise it wouldn't hear the trigger word).
When I first got it a few months back it behaved as expected and the only time when my living room Echo studio picked up the wake word is when I spoke too loud.
Suggestions or do I have a faulty Echo Show?

Amazon Echo Discussion / Lucyd frames vs Echo frames
« Last post by renegade600 on February 05, 2024, 10:41:02 pm »
I purchased a pair of Lucyd Fusion frames and compared them to the Echo Frames.    It would be the ideal frames if only alexa was always listening.   I really like them, just a pain to use with alexa.    I can wear them for 8 hours listening to audiobooks at work and power is only down around 50 percent at the end of the shift.    There is a battery in both arms with their own charging ports.   In addition, you can turn off one arm so the charge will last even longer.

Alexa has to be default on the phone and it needs to be unlocked in order to use.   Since it is only a bluetooth connection,  a button must be pushed to connect for every command.

If only Alexa was always listening.   I hope amazon will add the additional features to their frames.   I am sticking with the echo frames, except when at work.
