Title: Spot bug
Post by: Pagemakers on February 13, 2018, 04:18:58 am
If you have a spot try this..

Set volume to 2
Ask Alexa to tell the time
Ask Alex to read the news or play any music

Note that the news or music volume is much quieter than the voice at volume 2?

I say volume 2 because many of us with use the spot next to our bed and volume 2 is comfortable for that.

Do you get the same problem. If you do which country are you in and software version. Maybe it’s just a UK issue.

Happens to me and everybody I know who has a spot.

Reporting it to amazon has been hard to say the least.

Here’s a demo...

Yes, I think we’re experiencing the same volume issue - I asked a similar question here:
https://www.amazonforum.com/forums/devices/echo-alexa/472804-volume-of-alexas-voice-on-spot
I’m in the UK and my software version is 599473520. Strangely, volume levels on my Echo seem better balanced with Alexa’s voice and music sources at a similar level.

Glad you’ve got the bug too!!  I think it’s a firmware issue with the Spot only. Not usre if it only affects the UK model. I’ve raised it with Amazon and a call is schedule for tomorrow. I’ll update this thread then.  In the meantime, if anybody else has the issue please post it here.

I’d be interested to hear what Amazon have to say.

Response from Amazon...

Hi Paul,

My name is Kevin and I work on the Social Media team for Amazon.co.uk. I picked up your message on Twitter. Thanks for sending on your details.

Thank you for bringing this potential issue to our attention. I have cut a ticket to our Echo technical team who are working on this as we speak.

Once I have received and update I will email you again to advise.

Thank you for your continued patience.

My previous post related to the difference between Alexa’s voice and music source levels. Today I tried “Alexa, what’s up?”
Response:
“Hello, it’s four pm, here’s the latest”. Loud
Alexa reads weather. Quieter
Alexa reads trending story. Even quieter
“And that your afternoon update”. Loud again.

She also reads the calendar quieter.

Amazon called me today and have raised as ticket with their Tech department. They are going to call me again in 2 days. I’ll keep you updated.

Weird that her own voice levels can vary so much. Certainly suggests a bug.

Only happens on my Spot. Echo and Dot seem OK

Exactly the same here.

I’m pissing up the wall with Amazon.  I’ve spent about 4 hours of my time on this and this morning I get an email from them asking me what the issue is as they can’t detect a problem on my device and they have no notes!!

Just going round and round in circles.

That’s not helpful!

They’ve raised another support ticket and have promised that the same person will keep ownership.

I’ve replicated this bug on 4 Spots now.  It definitely exists.

Agreed - there’s definitely an issue with voice levels on Spot, but Echo and Dot are fine.

Looks like Amazon have finally spotted the issue. They replied today with......

I just wanted to give you an update on the progress of the issue you are facing with your Echo Spot.

The update I have received from our technical department is that the issue is quite a bit more complicated an issue than originally expected. We currently have our technicians spanning several teams working on a resolution and should have a answer for you very shortly.

Once I have more information I will email you again. Thank you once more for your patience and cooperation.

Update from amazon

I have had an update from our technical team today. They has stated they have now located the root of the issue and are currently working on software updates that will solve the problems you have been experiencing.

These updates will be automatically applied to your device within the coming days and I have asked that if they will take any longer, that I be told so I can in turn inform you.

Once again, thank you for your continued understanding and patience throughout this. It has been a much more in dept fix than we had originally expected and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention.

Thanks for the update - good to see that Amazon have acknowledged the issue and are working to fix it.

Looks like the Spot's software has updated to 601481220. Does that fix the problem? I'm away so can't test.

Software update seems to have improved the volume issue. Sky News is now a video bulletin and the audio level is slightly down compared to Alexa’s voice level, but only slightly.

Ok. Thanks. I’m home late tonight so I can test then.

So disappointed.

I searched high and low on Uncle Google about this issue and finally found it reported here.

I find the issue particularly bad when using the Spot for calls.

Hoping for a fix soon.

It should be sorted soon. I’m having regular correspondence from Amazon. They acknowledge the bug and say the fix will be released shortly.

Nope. I’m in contact with them a couple of times a week. They say they know there is a bug and they are waiting for the fix date. To be honest, I’m very un-impressed at how hard this simple thing has been to get sorted.

Because I have my spot next to my bed on volume 2 I find this bug really annoying.

Getting a little frustrated with this now.  It's a fundamental flaw and it amazes me Amazon have not gotten a fix out yet.

Couldn’t agree with you more. Is a MASSIVE bug. The problem is Amazon is just too big to be able to deal with one person constantly. Each time I get passed to the next person who knows nothing about what I’m talking about. I’ve probably had 60-70 communications with Amazon about this.

For the love of god all they need to do is take a brand new unit out of the box and try it!!!

Where in the world are you just so we can establish it’s not just a U.K. firmware issue.

No, but spamming every thread isn’t going to get you many backers.

Thanks for the update. It does seem to be taking Amazon a long time to get to the bottom of the issue.

I guess we should give up on this fix.  Sounds like Amazon were giving you spin on this.

Is yours fixed?

Mine isn’t. They still write to me every week stating they are working on it.

Pathetic it’s taken almost a year so far.

Nope.  File 13 = trash can.  In other words I think they either gave up or you've been lead along.
