Echo Technical Support / Re: Echo Dot 5th gen freezes at command

Thanks for responding.....yes, I usually wait about a minute with it unplugged.  I don't normally recycle the router....but tried that after your reply....still happened.

And yes...I checked the firmware.....

It's just odd because it doesn't happen every time.....it's usually once a day for sure, sometimes twice...and once it does it, and the light goes back out, then everything is fine....

I might just end up moving that one to a different location and bringing one of the gen 4 dots back into the bedroom.

moving to a different location could help.   Maybe for a test, move it to the same room as the router to make sure there is not a signal issue or swap it with another device that is not having problems

I've had that happen frequently, not on an Echo Dot, but on my Echo Auto. I've always chalked it up to a bad connection, either from the Echo Auto to my iPhone or from my iPhone to the cell tower. Same as you, it would clear itself up after a minute.

I have several Echo Dots and Dots with clock. It's never happened on my Dots. But I have very good WiFi throughout my house with many Google WiFi mesh network nodes.

Running the latest firmware? "Alexa, check for update."

when you reboot, do you unplug it for at least 40 seconds?   Also, try power cycling your router.

Echo Technical Support / Echo Dot 5th gen freezes at command
« Last post by OzzPocket on November 20, 2023, 11:22:54 pm »
My bedroom Echo Dot with Clock (5th gen) will...at least once per day....freeze when I give a command...for example, If I say "Alexa, bedroom light on"  or "Alexa, play XYZ" (where XYZ is a radio station or whatever)

The blue light will come on....and just hang....for up to a minute or more....in the meantime, I can either remain silent, repeat the command, or give the "Alexa, Stop" command, to no avail....

After a minute or so, the blue light will disappear, and if I repeat the original command, all is fine...

Again, this happens pretty much daily at least once.

I've rebooted the unit a number of times....doesn't seem to make any difference.

As far as I can tell, it is the only unit exhibiting this....it's also the only 5th gen unit I have.

Anyone else have this issue?

Amazon Echo Discussion / Re: Leave My Setting Alone!!!
« Last post by renegade600 on November 18, 2023, 04:02:07 pm »
At one point I had 8 Echo Shows. Every other week Amazon did something to change my home screen. Whether it's adding some "new feature" or change something I had on the home screen. Can you imagine my frustration having to go to each one of the Echo Shows to disable the new feature and put things back the way it was every few weeks?

Slowly one by one I traded in each of the Echo Shows and replaced them with Echo Dots with clock. Amazon allows a trade in every few months and they also give you $20 off a new Echo device.

I cannot imagine having to make your rounds changing settings regularly for eight show devices.   It was bad enough when I had three.     Amazon could at least put the settings in the app and give the choice of one overall setting or individual settings.

Life as a Beta Tester... it's rough.

You could always make your own and hope to come in at a dollar level around what Amazon produces them and sells them (at a loss, I suspect) for... If you're gonna play the Voice assistant game, you have to have thicker skin about things than if you had paid for a fully functioning voice assistant, when you're buying the loss leader of Amazon. I pay the extra on their tablets to stop all ads... I wish they had an Ad-Delete program on these AI voice assistants too... I pay it. I'd pay 50 bucks for it. But until then... I'll continually set all my settings each time they do an update... and without complaint. Stuff is too cheap to complain.

nothing you can do about it.    that is why I dumped two of my three shows.   the only reason I kept one is for the ring doorbell and it will be gone if I can find a replacement.     I also noticed they started combining good features with bad under one buttons.    I had to disable communications because of this.

At this time, the only way to stop the unwanted content is to run photo frame.   It will run three hours at a time rotating your images.    Just have to restart it after some routines and commands.
