Want to use Alexa calling but both phones ring
« on: May 11, 2017, 06:19:20 am »
My wife and I share a prime account.

With Alexa, we like to have access to the same shopping list.

I set up my iPhone to enable calling to it but when I tried to do the same with her iPhone it didn't give me the option of setting it up in her name.  When I told Alexa to call me by name, both phones rang.

Is there a way to differentiate the phones?

I have the account, and previously my wife set herself up as a member of the same household in my Prime account.  So, have you ever done this; it might help.

Anyway we currently have both our phone numbers in our Alexa apps.  When testing,  I left a voice message for myself via a Dot, and it indicated it was from her.  My cell phone rang and also all the Alexa gadgets did too.  I answered either via my phone or another Dot.  It all appeared to be working fine.

i went to my wife's iPhone and deleted her Alexa app.  When I reinstalled the app I was able to set her up as a separate account as far as calling went.  Pretty cool!

This error is probably due to the non-precise settings. It the thing with voice-activated things like Cortana , for example. I got confused just the same after some folks advised me to get the most out of the things Alexa can do. When I heard it can not only make phone calls, but share functionality through an account, I tried to set it up like you and your wife. The same problem appeared. I deleted all the settings and reinstalled. Turns out it was about sharing status. My GF wa listed as member of the household, and it worked.
Still, separate accounts are easier to maintain.
