API - Have her talk without manual invocation
« on: July 13, 2018, 04:03:19 am »
Hi!

I was asked if I can have Amazon Alexa/Echo talk to us, without manual invocation. The idea is that I want to have Alexa say something like 'Someone is at the door' or play an alert audio file, when our doorbell is pressed.

I can code and wire everything that needs to be done, but I cannot find if Alexa can be controlled remotely without a skill was first started using the voice input (eg. Alexa, ask SKILLNAME).

So what I would like to do is that when nobody is talking to Alexa, have alexa say something. Is this possible using the API?

I don't know how API works but if you say you can wire and code everything. Why don't you try if it works without using that API skills.

I think it can be done if you use motion sensor coz that would be your trigger without using voice. Correct?

But there are a lot of motion sensor for Alexa now. So I don't know why you need to code it yourself.
