Amazon Echo X10 Home Control

I created and documented how to seamlessly control X10 devices with the Amazon Echo using a Hue Bridge emulator.  Anyone else still use X10, or want Alexa to control it?

I'd love to see an easy way for Alexa to use my many X-10 goodies!

I highly doubt there will be any support for X10. The biggest issue with X10 is confirmation feedback.

For example, if I am in my kitchen and I use an X10 remote to turn on a light in the garage, I will have no indication that the light is actually turned on. The best guess would be to press the ON button on the remote 100 times so that you can be reasonably sure that at least 1 of the 100 turn on commands made it through to turn on the light. But still, you won't know for sure because the X10 technology does not have the ability to report its current on/off state.

Some years ago, I did read about X10 version 2 that does have confirmation feedback. But I guess it really never caught on because I've never heard any more about it. And I also lost interest in X10 technology.

I had a huge number of X10 modules (over 60) since the early 80's and migrated over to Insteon about 5 years ago. It was a pretty seamless transition since many Insteon devices support X10 commands, but the dual-mesh/PLM technology of current Insteon devices is far superior.

You can control X10 devices with the Echo (see the OP's link). I still have a couple X10s in use that work just fine via the Universal Devices ISY-994i hub which is now "Echo compatible". You can learn more at http://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/17861-amazon-echo-connected-home-feature.

I still have and use X10 - I added a device that plugged in and straddled both phases about 5-6 years ago. That device made it function 75% more effectively and have enjoyed it every since. Thanks for the info.

I remember x10 ads - especially the models used :-)  seriously I am surprised their cameras are still widely used.

Since the ha-bridge now supports script calls (version 2.0.0+) I wrote an updated version of my Echo -> X10 control tutorial using a bash script in place of the need for an Apache server and PHP.  http://coreyswrite.com/tips-tricks/amazon-echo-x10-home-control-updated/

I've created a small X10 program (Alex10) which runs on a PC and uses the HA-bridge.
It is designed to work with Active Home Pro so it or the AHP SDK needs to be installed.
It will work with the cm15, cm11, cm19, XTB-232 ... or any interface that works with the AHP SDK.
This is a free program which you can read more about in the X10 forums ;)
