Mixing brands

Are there any disadvantages to having, say, Wemo plugs and switches and TP-Link plugs, etc. in the one household - one router and one Echo, but maybe an additional Dot or two later? That is, apart from two learning curves and possibly two apps.

I'm pretty sure I've read posts from folks with a mixture, but now I can't fine such posts.

I want to play with a bit of automation and start with one or two TP-Link HS100s. But if the price of a Wemo Maker ever comes within range, I'll be adding one of those as well. I haven't any lighting preferences yet, but I imagine I'll get to that as well eventually.

Thanks.

You can mix several different HA brands.
I have wemo, sonoff, zwave, and X10.
I also control things with IR and RF using the RM Broadlink

As far as the Echo is concerned, there is no disadvantage. Once all is set up, you can just speak to Echo to control all of them as opposed to several apps.
